The starting point of my work is self-penned texts, which I transform into various forms and media: typographically or as a voice recording, in combination with printmaking, photographic or film techniques, in interior and exterior spaces. I am interested in the use of language as an image- and space-generating element. Pictorial texts and mental spaces that are subject to a constant change of perspective and can thus reflect diverse interpersonal states.

CONTEMPORARY TEXT BASED ART
Thyra Schmidt was born in Pinneberg (near Hamburg). She lives and works in Düsseldorf. She studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Thomas Ruff, at the HBK Braunschweig under Dörte Eißfeldt, at the FH Hannover and the Hiroshima City University, Faculty of Art in Japan.
In her work Thyra Schmidt deals with the visualization of communicative elements in interpersonal relationships and the experiences people make in a changing environment. The artist uses photography, new media and their installation options, particularly in projects for the public space. Very often she uses language as a visual or acoustic form of expression. Her poetic lyrics display a multilayered imagination.
