Please read more about this exhibition in the article, dated March 16th. 2020 by Dr. Bertram Müller: “Virenfrei durch die Photoscene” (Virus-free through thephotoscene) in German daily newspaper Rheinische Post;
and also the article by Helga Meister in Westdeutsche Zeitung, dated March 13th. 2020 under the title: Düsseldorf Photo Plus mit überraschendem Programm (Düsseldorf Photo Plus with surprisingprogramme).
Thyra Schmidt’s work is based on the transfer of self-composed texts into different forms of expression. Accordingly,the “Rendezvous” (2018/2019) began with the writing of the audio collage “elle”. This typographic sheet fragmentarily reproduces the sensations, assertions and situations ofseveral potential characters.
This is followed by ten photographs of still lifes of flowers. A tulip, rose, lily, carnation, bellflower, daffodil, chrysanthemum and a rose hip branch, each in a vessel, stand on atable in front of a drawn curtain, either as a bouquet or individually. Always at the same place, the perspective and light situation varies. The pictures, monochromesilkscreen prints with a rough grid in orange, red, green and blue tones, are titled with sentences such as “The following day, the house key will be found behind a sofa.” orwith notes such as “pour elle” or “Thanks to my muse”. Some titles come from “elle”, others seem to react to it. Sometimes a person is thought of, sometimes an atmosphere isreflected. A variety of relationships open up between human and cut flower – and the space behind them.
“What the cut flower has in common with contemporary man is indeed the urge to ‘put down roots and drive these roots into soil’ [Vilém Flusser]. The cut flower couldthereby become witness to the recovery and reinvention of forms of aesthetic individuation with which humanity succeeds in putting down roots in the soil of a desirablefuture.”
(Sebastian Olma, Art Form Cut Flower. An Encouragement, 2020)
In the exhibition, the “Rendezvous” series is shown in its entirety for the first time. More information: düsseldorf photo +

Adolf Bierbrauer was with his hypnosis paintings (1949 – 1953) the pioneerand founder of the social sculpture. His neighbour in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel Joseph Beuys formulated the Social Sculpture or also called as Social Plastic only in 1967.
With these works Adolf Bierbrauer was also the founder of participatory art, of immersion, pioneer of minimalism, vanguard of the conceptual art as well as thePop Art, also pioneer of hypnosis therapy as a gentle alternative to the at that time known as electro-shock therapy.
The above hypnosis painting with the red airplane reminds of the jet fighter painted much later by Gerhard Richter in 1963.

“Is there any need for an art work to be beautiful?
No, but it also won’t harm.”
A lot of art enthusiasts had often ask me this question mentioned above, because they had been unshure how to indentify the quality incontemporary art.
Each contemporary artist tries to indentify anything new in this world to express. I call it the search of truth. If the result of the artisticprocess leads to anything new, uniqueness will emerge and the art work is well-made.
The taste of the recipient is not important for the artistic process. The artists are nevertheless very interested to see effect of theirwork in the reactions of the recipients. Less on the level of taste, but on the level of adventure, cognition, emotionality, dialog ability, Innovation and genuineness.
