Driss Ouadahi was born in Casablanca and grew up in Algeria. He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in the class of Michael Buthe. Today he lives and works in Düsseldorf and Paris.

In his painting he focuses on the theme of architecture and the social implications of high-rise buildings. The “prefabricated buildings” are considered “non-privileged urban areas”. From his point of view, these buildings have structures, stories of memory and diverse cultures that have much to tell in passing.

In recent years, these urban landscapes and high-rise buildings have taken a central theme in his art. These suburbs (Dans-Cité – in the city / Densité- density) are a narrow space with an image density that he reflects in his works. For him, they have a narrative intensity that appeals to him and he tries to convey it through his painting.

Driss Ouadahi had participated this year in an exhibition at the Museum Ratingen entitled: “The dream of living”. In 2018 he had a solo exhibition at Von der Heydt Kunsthalle, Wuppertal Barmen. In 2019 he participated in a major exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, as well as the Dakar Biennale in 2014.
In 2011 he was a participant in the 54th Biennale di Venezia ” Future of a promise”.

This new exhibition titled: “Les Murmures” is already the second exhibition that I show in my spaces since 2019.

Works by Driss Ouadahi are in Modern Forms, London; Musée national des beaux-arts, Algiers; at FRAC Orléans, France; Foundation Museum Kunstpapalast, Düsseldorf; Museum Von der Heydt, Wuppertal; Herbert-Wisenburger Foundation, Rastatt; Museum Ratingen, and many more. . .
