Ewa Jaczynska was born in Alt Münsterberg, Poland and lives and works in Düsseldorf. She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Herbert Brandl and A.R. Penck (née Ralf Winkler) and became a master student of Herbert Brandl.

As we know, the history of art regarding the means used to create an abstract image is really long. Arnulf Rainer became famous for his overpaintings of photographs or figurative elements. Another famous artist, K.O. Götz, invented the technique of creating abstract images with the help of a squeegee. His student Gerhard Richter at the Düsseldorf Art Academy became world famous for the use of the squeegee in his abstract paintings by removing layers of paint to get to the original color fields.

Ewa Jaczynska is an abstract painter and in her work she focuses on the possibility that the squeegee gives her when wiping, brushing the canvas or paper. Her aim is to give new singular expression to feelings, thoughts and associations from nature and the environment through the manual gesture, i.e. the action and the color used.

In her paintings gesture and use of color becomes a new own expressive image. The technique is relevant to herself, but not to the viewer, who sees only the result. Both tachist color distributions and circles with the squeegee develop a completely new formal language. The colors are used powerfully unpretentious and yet show an elegant lightness in the application. Ewa Jaczynska’s paintings are characterized by an almost casual approach to color, rhythm and movement. It is fun to follow the visual forms of expression of her works, to expose oneself to their color gradients and to enter into them contemplatively.
