HORST KEINING

CHOSEN INCOHERENCES

Opening

19.April 2024 – 19:00 Uhr

Duration of exhibition

19.April 2024 – 24.Mai 2024

HORST KEINING describes himself as a POSTPOP artist and is therefore one of those artists who see their works in direct relation to the world-famous POPART of the 1960s. Well-known artists and pioneers at the time were Andy Wahrhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg. They showed a completely new view of the consumer world and elevated the Heinz ketchup to a visual icon of an unbridled world in which endless consumption represented the ultimate value of a free society.

Although POSTPOPART draws on many icons of pop art, it modifies their visual elements and creates new, unusual contexts. HORST KEINING uses images, characters, patterns, photographs, brand names and concepts from a wider cultural period. He integrates various visual elements from the 19th century to the present day.

In doing so, HORST KEINING develops completely new references and recalls events in history, figures from music or literature that shaped his life and create meaning for him and the viewer. He interweaves them metaphorically – and richly layered – in his resin-painted pictures. The pictures are based on a sublime concept. They encourage the viewer to discover the complexity of his pictorial and linguistic worlds in order to place them in the context of his own experiences.

Visitors to this exhibition will have the privilege of discovering individual works that will also be on display at Museum Goch this June as part of a new solo exhibition by the artist. We look forward to your visit on the opening evening.
